  1. A meteor is a flash of light in the sky, 
  2. popularly known as a shooting or falling 
  3. star, caused by a particle of dust, a 
  4. meteoroid, entering the atmosphere at speeds 
  5. up to 70kps (45mps) and burning up by 
  6. friction at a height of around 100km 
  7. (60miles). On any clear night, several 
  8. sporadic meteors can be seen each hour.
